the new york branch of our family loved a place i think was named "sun lock kee" in chinatown on a corner of mott street. the place was a dump, the service too quick and the waiters too often surly. however, the food was excellent. it was the kind of chinese food i always imagine they prepare for themselves at home. at any rate, they had a fire a couple of summers ago and reopened in one of the outer boroughs. the new york "kids" have been trying to find a place as good but keep coming up short. the kind of stuff we love is salt and pepper squid or softshells, clams or dungenous crabs in black bean sauce, almost any lobster dish that involves slurping sauce and extra napkins, sauteed green vegetables (bok choy, pea pod shoots, straw vegetable, etc.)any ideas out there?
