Good bread in Astoria/LIC

Scott Smith | Jan 3, 2002 04:11 PM

Astoria and Long Island City are filled with bakeries, and it always smells good to walk home through a mist of sweet doughy goodness, but the final product, for eating, ain't so good. Where are the good breadmakers, the artisans? We have Parisi Brothers, but the only thing going for them (Bway and 31st St) is that their bread has such turnover that you're almost guaranteed a warm loaf. But wait 10 minutes, and it's disappointment...

Anyone know of a good bakery in Western Queens that serves up good country bread: crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside?
