Good BBQ in Ventura

ciaolette | May 25, 2003 09:39 PM

disclaimer....I am NOT a BBQ expert...today I had some good BBQ and just wanted to spread the word. I noticed a takeout stand called "It's the Sauce Texas BBQ". We drove around the back to make sure there was a real BBQ, and there it was: a smoking black barrel...good sign. We had beef ribs, huge, and the chicken sandwich. The sandwich was big chunks of pink smokey dark meat on a very fresh soft roll. The ribs were meaty. The sauce was not super spicy, but sweet, balanced, and generous. Sides of beans and potato salad also excellent, beans with shards of smoked meat and the potato salad was absolutely homemade, tiny dice of eggs, onions, pickles, very creamy. Maybe the best I've ever had in a restaurant.
They also have tri tip (which looked great) spicy links, pork etc. Amongst the peach cobblers and pecan pies they had 7up cake, what's that??

Its the Sauce, Main St corner Catalina St, Ventura
