Good bbq tri-tip at Mac Que's, Sacramento

beanbag | Nov 30, 200504:05 PM     6

I picked up lunch today at Mac Que's, a barbecue place out at Elder Creek and Power Inn. The place is small and does a brisk business --- all 7-8 tables were occupied at lunchtime. A truck driver tipped me off to this place and said he swore by it, said the portions were bigger and the prices lower than Everett & Jones. It looks like they do a big take-out business.

Anyway, I picked up the "two-way" dinner plate ($9.95) which allows you to pick any two of their grilled meats (I chose the tri-tip and the pork ribs) plus two side dishes (I got great mustard greens and some good baked beans) and a roll. I chose the medium-hot sauce, which was excellent, smoky, and sweet.

The pork ribs were OK but the hit of the day was the tri-tip -- thinly-sliced and meltingly soft, perfect for mopping up the sauce. They offer sandwiches made with the tri-tip meat, which I'll definitely try next time.
