I haven't seen anyone lately putting in a good word for Phil's BBQ in Mission Hills (on Goldfinch, just north of Washington). Though their bbq sauce isn't hot enough for me, the food has been consistently good for the past five years I have eaten there. Other than that, there are no good BBQ places in SD! I don't have the nerve to go down south to Huffman's, but I've been told by friends that it is good. Big Jim's in Encinitas is about as good (no, NOT as good) as Love's. Tony Roma's is junk. Years ago, in La Jolla, Clay's BBQ had people down the block waiting to get into their tiny place, the best BBQ I've had in Southern California. Unfortunately, Mr. & Mrs. Clay moved down to a former Mexican restaurant in Bird Rock, and the magic was gone. Now they're gone. Excellent Texas BBQ. Can anyone offer a good suggestion?
