Is good *BAKED* Felafel an Oxymoron?

So I usually make Joan Nathan's lovely fried felafel recipe with some small tweaks, including replacing the regular flour with chickpea flour and adding more spice. But I am just not up for frying and would like to bake either these felafel, or maybe try Mark Bittman's recipe: http://markbittman.com/recipe/baked-f....

Thing is, the one time, I attempted baked felafel it was dry and just so not satisfying. Is there such a thing as good, or heck, I will take decent, baked felafel? Any tips or tricks or recipe recs to this end would be so appreciated!
