I was in Jamaica this morning picking up a new remote control for my cable box at the Time Warner Cable PayExpress office. On my way back to the subway I noticed a sign that read "Van Wyck Hand Rolled Bagels". I thought this was a very odd locaation for a bagel shop (on the Van wyck service road, next to Jamaica Hospital). When I approached the storefront I was dissapointed to see pizzas in the window (the usual sign of bad pizza and bad bagels). I figured what the hell since I was starving and my only other option was a dirty water dog in front of the hospital.
Turns out the bagels are pretty damn good. Large bagels with a nice crust on the outside and chewy on the inside. Standard flavors available (no blueberry crap).
I did not feel daring enough to try any of the spreads and by their looks I made the right move, however the bagels are pretty good all by their lonesome. Obviously this place is not worth the trip from Manhattan or anything, but I've been living in Forest Hills for almost 2 years and this bagel is better than anything around here.
If interested take the E train to Jamaica-Van Wyck. Store is ajacent to subway escalator.
