Looking for Good American Eats in the South Bay

Humbucker | Jul 29, 200503:09 PM     5

What are some good places for old fashioned, unpretentious American food between Palo Alto and Cupertino/Santa Clara (I might be willing to go a little farther into West San Jose)? I'm looking for reasonably priced places that do the staple hot dishes (turkey dinners and roast beef/prime rib, for example) in addition to sandwiches, pastas, salads, etc. I know there are plenty, like Max's Opera Cafe, Country Gourmet, Peninsula Fountain, Harry's Hoffbrau, Flames, Holder's Country Inn, Lori's Diner, etc., but which ones have you had good experiences with? I'm hoping I won't have to go to The Cheesecake Factory or a Marie Callender's. Original Joe's would be the type of restaurant I'm looking for, but it's a but too distant for me (I'm in Mountain View).
