Just got done with a round of trying the new places that have opened in the last few months and Cadence's prix-fixe was the stand-out in terms of price and food. Also liked the food at Volta a lot but not the atmosphere and they still have FOH issues to work on. Was disappointed by Lord Stanley, had another sub-par meal at Cala, not going back there again.
Cadence is doing both an a la carte and 4 course prix-fixe for 49 with an automatically added gratuity of 20%. One the website it looks like the prix-fixe is all by pre-paid tickets and that's what we did but they also offered that menu when we arrived.
The meal was 4 courses either a completely vegetarian choice or a meat and seafood choice. There was what they were calling an amuse before the first course but at about 3 ounces of cauliflower soup it was bigger than an amuse. They also end the meal with a homemade caramel and a pate de fruit.
I was really impressed on every level, the service was great, the decor is free of wood on the walls and has a retro feeling with curved booths for two and interesting alcoves for six tops. There is lots of fabric and sound baffling and it was easy to hear conversations.
The vegetarian menu was as good as the meat one and all the portions were decent for a multi-course meal. The course was a cure surgeon dish for me and a roasted carrot dish for the spouse, the second was a pasta course for both of us and our final savory course was a steak about 4 ounces that was beautifully cooked and had some of the best sunchokes I've had in North America as well as a lovely jus.
The chef really has a great way with his sauces and all the dishes were really well developed. He's planning on also doing a 9 course tasting menu.
