Well maybe it's okay if there's no place else around and you just have to get dim sum in Houston on a week day. Armed with the memory of Rob Walsh's praise for the weekday dim sum at Golden Palace, I stopped in to try it.
It tasted like what I would have expected, and not as described in the Press review from months ago. It tasted like Sunday's dim sum, frozen and re-steamed.
It was still okay, but if I had bought the stuff last weekend, stuck it in the fridge, and reheated it in the microwave, it would have been just as good. And I wouldn't have experienced the filthy bathroom and chilly hospitality of Golden Palace.
