The Golden Fung Wong Bakery at 41 Mott St has baked goods that are a little homier looking than the average modern Chinese bakery like Fayda. There's one item there in particular that Iron Frank turned me onto, but I don't know what it's called, and there's no label. It's usually on the top shelf of the counter, closer to the door than the register, in a plastic bag with a twist tie, and consists of two scone-shaped hunks of dough. It's slightly sweet, very heavy, but with an addictive chewy texture. It's 60 cents. Give it a try next time you're in the neighborhood.
