Golden City re-opens in San Diego

Green Turtle | Sep 28, 200504:24 PM

Some SD chowhounders may remember this restaurant at its old location on Convoy St before they closed and it was turned into a Persian place. For those who miss their southern China style cooking, they have reopened only a couple miles away at the intersection of Clairemont Mesa Blvd & Kearny Villa Rd in the stripmall located at the southeast corner. What I remember from the old Golden City was their relatively inexpensive dim sum that they served during lunchtime (and even when they had an all-you-can-eat dimsum lunch buffet). The new location however no longer serves dim sum. Instead, it looks like they are trying to be more upscale and compete with places like China Max and Emerald by offering a large variety of seafood dishes including shark fin soup, lobster, crab, abalone, deep fried scallops, and more. However, their prices are lower than both Emerald's and China Max's and their dish size portions are generous. Because they just opened, they're running a 10% off deal for the next month. For you late dinner eaters, fortunately, there's still the 9pm-midnight late supper special. I look forward to trying their 2 course peking duck for $18.
