Gochi in Encino: Super slow service or off night?

WHills | Dec 18, 2006 04:47 AM

So after some good praise from this site, I ventured out to try Gochi. Here is how the experience went. It took us about 5 minutes to get seated, even with 2 empty tables. We then ordered hot tea and got the menu. We decided to order the premium beef skirt and short rib dinner combo and the shrimp and short rib. We then put in our order. This was approximately 10 to 15 minutes after we sat down.

20 minutes passed, and we got our miso soup, salad, and rolls. (Hmmm, 20 minutes to make miso soup and salad?)

We then waited about another 20 minutes and the raw beef and shrimp came.

We finished eating and then ordered another order of asparagus and of the short ribs. We waited, waited, waited and waited. About 20 minutes later, the asparagus came, after asking the waitress one or two times. The asparagus cooked, we ate it, and then waited another 15 minutes. The beef never came so I cancelled my order and left.

All in all, dinner took about 1 1/2 hours at a place where you cook your own food. The service was very mediocre if not poor. It seemed like they didn't have enough people.

I'm asking you guys if Gochi is always so slow, OR was it just an off-night??? I liked the food and would like to go back, but I also don't like waiting and waiting for food.
