I was in the Village tonight with the hubby and stopped in at Gobo on Sixth Avenue between Waverly and 8th Street. Hubby was in the mood for steak but I somehow persuaded him to try Gobo.
Well, it turned out to be quite a tasty meal. Gobo is a vegetarian restaurant and, generally speaking, I haven't been fond of other vegetarian restaurants I've been to in the City. I was quite suprised at how much both the hubby and I enjoyed the meal. He had the Smoke Braised Seitan with Chinese broccoli and I had the Green Tea noodles with Vegan Bolognese sauce. While my entree was pretty good, his was great. They somehow got the Seitan crispy on the outside the way Chinatown roast duck skin is crispy and tender on the inside. My bolognese sauce was perhaps a tad too chewy from tvp granules but was still flavorful and the green tea noodles were nice and al dente.
The only drawback was the Vegetarian Vietnamese rolls. They were basically vegetables in rice paper with a honey dipping sauce.
If you're in the mood for vegetarian, I suggest you check Gobo out.
