I have a problem with chevre and I have never met a single other person with a similar problem.
I LOVE chevre so when a log was put in front of me, purchased at a local aligmentari in Rome, I in my jet-lagged, Rome-delirious state ate too much.
The next day I slept 16 hours - in addition to a regular night both nights.
I've had other experiences where I had goat cheese without knowing it, and had the same reaction, so it's not in-my-head.
Whenever I'm at a farm market or cheese store, I ask if anyone has heard of this. I appear to be unique.
So, when dining at a seafood restaurant in Florida, I ordered a dish that included feta.
Next day, I had the now-familiar reaction to goat cheese.
But, feta is made from sheep's milk!
So, I called the restaurant and was told that the chef said it was sheep's milk cheese.
My understanding of reality was shaken.
Then, 3 hours late the chef called me back! (amazing in itself) to tell me that he had called his purveyor and discovered that this feta was in fact 30% goat's milk!
Subsequently I discovered that whomever controls these things allows up to 30% goat's milk in cheese called "feta".
Reality is now firmly re-established.
And, I am now more cautious about feta (unless I want to sleep all day the next day)
