Glazed waffles?

A coffee shop I used to frequent years ago served the most amazing waffles. They were dark brown in color and ridiculously crispy with a nice light glaze....Any ideas on how to replicate this?

It's since changed ownership and the waffles aren't anything like they used to be...I'm not sure if this matters, but the original owner was Swiss...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
