So, here's the thing. My partner and I have been frequenting the same bar for nearly a year or more now and there is one particular bartender who helps us out when he's not busy [he'll get us drinks, change the TV to show a specific sports game, etc].
We use to go to this place about once a week for a few months until circumstances changed in our lives that prevented us from going every week [though we would still go at least once a month]. It's not until recently where we were able to go back to this bar once a week like we use to and noticed that same bartender was still around.
Like before, he helps us when he's not busy and says hello to us every now and then, but the thing is, even though my partner and I know his name [because of his name tag displaying it] we've never formally introduced ourselves to him. Like I said, I can tell he recognizes us from him greeting us sometimes when we come in.
So, the question is, would it be appropriate to get him a gift for Christmas even though he may not know us by name? We do appreciate his friendliness, because it makes us feel welcomed and it's part of the reason why we frequent this place. Also, I understand theres a difference between being friendly, because he has to be and being friendly, because it's genuine [to which my partner and I feel he's being genuinely friendly].
And if it is appropriate, what kind of gift would be good?
