I've been a fan of Gino's on Pondfiled Rd. in Bronxville/Yonkers for years since it was my local joint growing up. Now living back in the same nabe I started stopping by again. As of two years ago it wasn't very good. but about a year ago they got a new group of cooks and the pizza is really great now. Thin, crisp but bendable crust, the right balance of cheese and sauce.
But the past week I've worked long days and ordered some of the entrees because I was too tired to cook. I had the Chicken Marsala, the Chicken Scarpariello, and Filet of Sole Francese. They include an ok salad, a hunk of oven crisped bread, and pasta of choice with red sauce. I asked each time to have no red sauce but the sauce from the dish on the pasta (fettucine) instead. Each of these dishes was really good. Fresh made sauce, with good ingredients used.
The marsala had a good quality marsala used, fresh mushrooms cooked just long enough for the flavor to develop, but not make them overcooked and mushy, and the chicken was tender and not dry.
The Scarpariello was a new dish for me that I had never had before. A mix of hot and pickled peppers, sausage bits, in a tangy sauce and again the chicken was well cooked. The sauce went fabulous with the pasta.
Last night was the Sole Francese. The filets were very lightly battered, and fried just barely golden and moist. The sauce was the perfect balance of butter and lemon, and I was surprised how well lemon/butter went with the side of pasta.
I look forward to trying more of their entrees.
