Gimme Honey

During the Breadathon, ReneG was kind enough to gift me with a tin of silkworm chrysalides that are sitting on my kitchen counter (I’m waiting for someone to eat them with me, but I’m not sure what wine to drink with them; Al, any thoughts? They’re in a thin onion/ginger/garlic sauce). Everyone who sees these insect comestibles says “eeyouuu,” but no one reacts that way to honey, which is another edible insect product that most of us eat.

Anyway, I’m looking for good honey. I’ve been on a tea binge lately (two pots/day), and I take it with honey. For years, The Wife and I used Some Honey, a Wisconsin brand; it’s distributed by an old friend of ours, Jim Leto, who has the distinction of having made the trip with Abby Hoffman and others to bring to Chicago the pig named Pigasus, who was the Yuppie presidential candidate in 1968 (Pigasus’ home district was Juneau County). Also on that trip, I believe, was Michael James, founder of Heartland Café (the logos for the Heartland and Some Honey were both produced by one of the last remaining communards of Karma Farm, a once thriving intentional community outside New Lisbon).

I had a point here somewhere…oh, yeah, honey. Anybody know of a good resource for local honey, uncooked and not stupidly expensive? (My guess is that most prices will be reasonable in this age when Lord Atkins rules, and many eat only of the dark side, meaning that the price of honey, like the prices for other sweet things, such as orange juice, is probably falling). Though I’m looking for uncooked honey, I have no problem with filtering (Jim once sold me a bucket of honey that was filled with tiny bee parts: it was cheap…and crunchy).
