Gift for cook

My wife and I and our kids stayed with some friends in Ireland for a week. They could not have been more hospitable.

The man of the house is quite a cook. He has a great number of cookbooks, and a lot of kitchen equipment, with little room for more. He mostly cooks without looking at a cookbook, and mostly seems to cook food from the mainstream of European cooking - some Italian, some French-ish, etc.

I would like to get him a gift, but, as I am not much of a cook myself (more of an eater) I am not sure what to get. Kitchen equipment and books were my obvious choices, but I'd like to get more creative.

We live in NYC, he lives in Dublin. Any suggestions?
Something in the range of $200 is what I had in mind.
