German Buttercream Layer Cake

Redstickchef | Sep 29, 201505:35 AM     2

I am looking for a German Buttercream layer cake recipe. My grandmother used to make this cake with layers of jam and buttercream on the outside. She stopped making it when my grandfather had a heart attack, and never made it for me or my family since then. She passed away a couple of years ago from Alzheimer's and id like to make one in remembers nice of her for our upcoming family get together. Mainly I'm looking for a buttercream recipe that had a pudding like base and then you add butter to the pudding, my aunt told me that apparently they would stand at the stove for "hours" stirring the pudding as children. I have no idea what the cake is like as far as being airier or dense, but any suggestions/hints would be helpful.
