There is no longer a doubt in my mind, this is the best cooking in the entire area.
I had lunch at Gerard's yesterday, and can not wait to get back. Began with a french green bean and artichoke salad ($15). Perfectly cooked crisp, beautifully green, with a lovely vinaigrette that was not at all tart. Followed with Sea Bass ($35). A gorgeous hunk of milky white fish, only slightly carmelized, atop an deliciously aromatic saute of apples, celery, onions and fennel in a mild butter sauce. All accompanied by the best baguette in town, a rich, tastey Mersault and concluded with a perfect expresso.
I've never been a big fan of the setting at Gerard's, but somehow on a rainy afternoon it appeared appropriately soothing and almost warm for a change. The service, as always, was impeccable.
Get there as soon as you can,... but don't, I repeat don't, reach for the bill.
