Gennaro's -- disappointed

jc | Apr 22, 2004 11:09 PM

Just had dinner at Gennaro's on the UWS. I've been going there for years and always had good a experience. Tonight was different. The antipasto was pretty tastless, drenched in oil. We each ordered a glass of wine, taking the server's suggestion of (I think) a Barbaresco. The server never told us the price, but in a place that is reasonably priced like Gennaro's, I expected $6 - $8 a glass. When the bill came at $12 a glass I was shocked. The two glasses of wine were more than our entrees (combined). The server's excuse was "well, it is $76 a bottle". Eventually he comp'ed one of the glasses after I said either he does something about it or I will.
