Restaurants & Bars 2

At the suggestion of another chowhound on this board, I stopped by Genarro's, a small Italian take-out place on King, east of Sherbourne. I have to say, it was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had at a take-out restaurant--possibly any restaurant--in recent memory. The service was incredibly friendly without being contrived. As the only one in there at the time, I was immediately shown all the food they had available on the hot counter, and given all sorts of details about the other food offered if ordered in advance. I mentioned that I had just moved in across the street, and they welcomed me to the neighbourhood by giving me a free cappucino (which was really well-made, with Lavazza coffee). Genarro's is simple, clean, fast, and -- best of all -- serves tasty food! I had a pre-made calzone from the hot plate (heated up in the oven, of course), which was great, and I can only imagine their made-to-order food would be even better. However, it was the great service and attitude that impressed me the most, and I will definitely be back (a lot, since it's across the street from where I live!) Plus, the price is right!

Genarro's - 257 King Street East (at Sherbourne)
Call 15 minutes ahead --(416) 368-9249 -- and they will have fresh pizza, calzones, and (I believe) pasta ready for you when you get there. Open until 8pm.

I highly recommend you check this place out, if only to have them brighten up your day!

PS -- I've already forgotten the name of the fellow who was working the counter when I went in, so I apologize. Genarro himself was also there, however. ;)
