Gems of the CT shore (New Haven to RI), up routes 9 & 11?

Olive123 | Oct 27, 201711:28 AM     18

We relocated to East Lyme a little less than a year ago and have done only minor food exploring so far. The best pick we have come across is easily Bufalina in Guilford, though we have had some quite good ice cream, as well. We don't eat meat, though my husband eats seafood, so we do have some dietary restrictions to consider. Many of the threads about this region seem to be older, or focused on towns beyond New Haven (Fairfield, Branford), which is a bit far unless something is truly special. We eat all kinds of food, from Indian to Mexican to Thai to Vietnamese to Mediterranean to Szechuan to French and Italian and deli. After more than a decade in the same Brooklyn neighborhood, we had some serious favorites, including many smaller, neighborhood places. Nothing needs to be fancy, but food needs to be excellent. We would hate to make a 45 minute drive for pretty unimpressive fare. Simple but delicious is fine, too. We have enjoyed everything from Di Fara to Per se, and honestly, Di Fara was our favorite date spot. Thanks for any thoughts!
