Let's get it straight from the start - my mom made the best gefilte fish in the whole world. She died in 1985, and I never had another piece of gefilte fish until my first visit to 2nd Avenue Deli two years ago. It was my first visit to NYC, and I stumbled on the place and did not even realize it was kosher until my girlfriend tried to order a glass of milk. Anyway, the place looked so authentic, and there was red horseradish already on the table, so I decided to try the gefilte fish. It is as close to my mom's as is humanly possible!! I loved it and the carrots were perfect too. So, I am coming back to NYC in May, with three guys who probably don't even know what gefilte fish is. Where should I go to get the best gefilte fish in NYC, and give my friends a chance to taste one of the most wonderful delicacies in all of Jewish cooking?
