GE Profile Gas Range Woes

BrookBoy | Feb 9, 201511:31 AM

We have a ~10-year old GE Profile 30" gas range with four burners, an oven and a warming drawer. It has gotten moderate to heavy use throughout its life with us, and my wife and I really like this stove. It really makes a difference to have a good stove.

The problem is that suddenly the oven sometimes doesn't come up to the specified temperature. For example, if I set it for 400°, it will take maybe half an hour (or longer) to reach 300° and then not get any hotter. When it's working correctly, it takes perhaps 10 minutes to come to 400°. This behavior is intermittent, happens only occasionally, always at an inconvenient moment. When it does happen, the next day it is working fine again. The burners all work, no problem at all.

Anyone have any ideas? I was about to call a repair shop (if any still exist), and then I thought of asking on Chowhound.

Thanks for any advice...
