We ate at Gascogne last night. My primary reason for going there was to satisfy my craving for cassoulet.
The cassoulet was just fine, and having successfully ordered this dish at other places outside of New York, Gascogne's version is not one that I would go out of my way for. My wife's rack of lamb dish was very generous with the lamb and was just OK, too. The appetizer of scallop in beurre blanc was relatively better and well made. Our waiter was polite and explained the dishes and wines with good knowledge. However, the pacing, from appetizer to our dessert, was just simply too fast as they just served immediately right after clearing out the prior plates. They simply didn't demonstrate the appropriate concept of pacing as less than one hour from our reservation time, we were going over our bill.
It was our first time ever at Gascogne and based on our experience, it will take a considerable amount of convincing for us to make our way back.
