Rhodes in the Square on Wednesday night-three quarters empty ("a slow week" said the manager).St John on Thursday night-absolutely heaving, every seat taken and queues.
3 courses at Rhodes-£36.50. Average 3 courses at St.John-maybe £30-not THAT much difference, although you can pay less.
Admittedly Dolphin Square is an out of the way location compared to St.John, which is in a perfect spot for custom, but is that all that accounts for the difference,or does it say something about preferred restaurant styles?
Actually the food and service at St.John was definitely feeling the strain. It could be becoming a victim of its own success.
