GardenaMarukai Pacific Market-BentoSS

Leigh | Sep 12, 2005 03:11 PM

Found this while shopping at the market. Its hidden away in the back of Marukai Pacific Market in Gardena. Just opened and I have to say - not bad at all for the price point. Little lunches to go, made to order price ranges from 3.40 - 8,50 for the Makunouchi Bento (meat, fish, shrimp combo). I had the daily special - rice pickles, a little dolop of potato salad, soy marinated chicken drumettes, pork tonkastu and tempura'd smelt for 4.50.

NOTE: Unlike the Marukai at Western and Artesia, this is one of the few branches of the Marukai markets that does not require a membership card to shop.

I'm a sucker for the plastic food displays that help the customer figure out what is in the bento lunches --and they have quite a nice one - reminds me of eating in those mom and pop places in Tokyo. I will definitely go back for lunch on the fly or one of those party platters. No sit down eating in the market but there is little picnic table outside.
