Garden of Eden--are there any redeeming qualities?

Man, I just cannot stand that place for lunch! I work down the block from the 23rd Street location and I usually pass it over for Whole Foods, but when it's cold out sometimes I'll give it another try. Here are a few of the disappointments I've had there over the past year:

1. The deli counter refused to make me a pate sandwich. I guess I could have bought a 1/4 lb, a roll, and some butter and assembled my sandwich at my desk, but I'd prefer not to. I've never been to another deli that sells pate by weight but won't make a sandwich of it.

2. The avocado salad has something in it that sets my mouth on fire. It was really very unpleasant. Possibly an overdose of cilantro? That's not an herb that usually bothers me, but I can't imagine what else it could have been.

3. The lobster bisque was inedible. It was thin and watery, had no evidence of lobster, and a sick, indescribable (rancid? burnt? worse!) flavor that stuck in my mouth & nose all day even though I couldn't eat more than 3 bites.

4. Today I had to have some chicken soup. It's fine, a little on the salty side but I like it that way. But they served it to me with two slices of bread with something desperately wrong with them: I dipped a piece into the soup, took a bite, and nearly spit it out. It tasted like cooking sherry, or something alcoholic. I took a few more nibbles and I can't figure out what the hell they did to this bread: sourdough gone wrong? clerk with soap on his hands? invisible white mold?

Does this place have any redeeming qualities? Have I somehow managed to order wrong every time I've been?

Thanks for listening to my rant!
