Ganesh on 16th/Harrison

Liz | Jul 1, 200305:40 PM     1

Went to Ganesh last night for very last minute take-away.
Has anyone else been there, or am I missing a thread on this place?
Not the most promising looking place, but lovely owners, and pretty darn good Indian food.
One always hopes after meeting owners/chefs that the food will be good after having a nice conversation with them, as I did. I was praying on the car ride home that the food would be good, because this is a place that chowhounds should check out and support.
The wife, who is Indian, makes the pickles and some of the other items and waits on the customers. The husband seemed to be bartender/chef. He's from Africa, by way of Jamaica and lived in India for years and picked up the cuisine while there.
*Really* good Samosas. The filling was very well seasoned, the they were perfectly fried and still crispy when I got them home.
The pickles (mango) were delicious - I'm not entirely familiar with how salty they ought to be. These were, but bites of it with the other food was perfect. We also had chicken, in what sauce I can't remember, and Lamb Vindaloo which was really good.
They've really suffered with the dotcom crash, and need evening business. They said lunch is still ok for them.
