"Galitos" A PortugueseRestaurant in Mt. Vernon

Nathaniel Siegel | Jul 7, 2002 02:20 PM

My wife, friends, and I had a lovely meal at Galitos last night in Mt. Vernon. It is across from the Mt. Vernon East RR Station on the New Haven line. It is a Portugese restaurant, about six months old. Half the place is in formica style, much like a lunceon counter. The other half, in its own room, is a nicely decorated sit-down area with table linens, etc. The crowd is mostly of Portugese origins...all very pleasant. The food was as good as anything we have had in the Iron Bound District or some of the fancier name Portugese places in Westchester. Things were very good, and good value for the money. Four of us, sharing some entres, some appetizers, some deserts, a very good bottle of wine, and tip, averaged about $27. each. The place is at 29 Elm Avenue, Mt. Vernon; 914-668-0100.
