Part of the ever burgeoning Gails bakery empire just off Tottenham Court Road.To get to the restaurant proper you have to go through the bakery and then the the lobby of the M hotel. The restaurant is partially screened from the lobby but it gave me the feeling of eating in an airport lounge.
It's another small plate place so the dishes came when they were ready.Kohlrabi, courgette & fennel salad was heavy on the kohlrabi but light on the fennel. Came with slices of parmesan. Very refreshing and elevated from being just an assemblage of good ingredients by the addition of preserved lemon and mint.
Pizza bianca with roast tomato, fennel salami, mozzarella & pistou was excellent. Far better than the one I had at Pulpo recently. The mozzarella was rich and creamy and complemented the robust salami and sweetness of the tomatoes.
Octopus with chick peas and harissa was a good dish, though the octopus was a little chewy. Nice flecks of red chillis, which in addition to the harissa really lifted the dish.
Breast of lamb with puy lentils was the only slightly disappointing dish. The addition lemon thyme made what could have been quite a heavy dish, surprisingly light. I was bit wary that the fat hadn't been rendered properly but it was melt in the mouth. It was though over salted.
Finished with chocolate & mascarpone custard tart with blackcurrant cream. I was expecting something lighter in texture but it had a fairly dense almost truffle like texture. Good pastry as you'd expect , it was very dark and rich and I was glad it was only a small portion. Blackberry & creme fraîche ice cream on brioche toast was also declared to be good by the missus.
All in all the food was very enjoyable.Service was efficient. Would love to try more of the cooking but maybe in a different space.
