funny "balthazar bakery" experience...

so while this might be better suited for the "outer bouroughs" board...thought some of y'all might be interested in this.

Went to visit my parents this weekend in lovely Englewood, NJ...and to my great elation and surprise, it turns out that that the balthazar bakery has been quietly baking it's bread on South Dean Street for a number of years now and only recently opened up a "wholesale division" storefront there. What this means, in a nutshell, is that the entire stock of balthazar baked goods is available at wholesale prices and is about as fresh and right out of the oven as can be. We had to wait a few minutes for the baguette to come out of the oven, but it was worth it. still warm when we got home. the scones are off the charts...although it was a little disconcerting seeing just how much butter they use in everything (you can peer into the bakery from the storefront)...we're talking *mountains* of butter. So if you have ties in that area of NJ or simply find yourself taking the GWB into NJ...the Balthazar Bakery is located at 214 South Dean Street in Englewood. Worth a pit stop.

Also worth a pit stop further south on Dean is Jerry's Gourmet. All types of specialty foods (with a lean towards Italian) at absolutely rock bottom prices. Strangely, I've seen their homemade Marinara/Tomato sauce at WholeFoods and other gourmet stores in the city. Definitely a place to check out....
