I saw in the LA Times Calendar section today that the Little Tokyo confection shop Fugetsudo is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. According to the Japanese American Nat'l Museum site they invented fortune cookies. Hmmmm - I always thought that happened in SF - but whatever.
Of course any food biz lasting for 100 years is pretty impressive - I'm going to give them a visit. I do like mochi and other Japanese sweets, but since I don't read Japanese I tend to pick based on the aesthetics of the packaging. Does anyone have any recommendations? (Except fortune cookies, which I really don't like).
Thanks so much!
