A month apart, I tried two leading contenders for best chilaquiles in the DC area. Chilaquiles are tortillas smothered in salsa and baked with egg, crumbles of cotijo cheese and crema on top. Maybe some other stuff like onions, cactus, or peppers for goood measure.
First up was Fuego in Clarendon. The salsa verde (menu does not advertise a choice) is a bit too vinegary for this purpose. Tortillas were good.
Taqueria Habanero in DC. The salsa verde (you are offered a choice) was more appropriate, and the tortillas were quite a bit better. Best part of the meal was their coffee. They serve black coffee sweetened, with cinnamon added. It was exceptionally well done.
I am not sure either version is worth going out of your way for, so YMMV.
