I just came back from Fubonn, which is a large Asian grocery store on 82nd in SE PDX. They just opened today.
I am very impressed. The selection is right up there with Uwajimaya. I believe Uwajimaya might have a larger fresh/refrigerated/produce section, but Fubonn could probably match them pretty closely with packaged foods and condiments.
I was paricularly impressed with the very global scope of Fubonn's selection. In addition to the Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese foods, they also had sections devoted to Filipino foods, Russian foods, and Mexican foods.
They have a very fine selection of frozen and shelf-stable vegetarian specialties and a large houseware section.
While the deli counter is offering a fine selection of Bahn Mi and rice treats, they seem to still be a work-in-progress.
The prices are excellent. I dropped less than $50 today and walked out with about four bags of groceries.
