Fruitcake queston

I'm planning on making a fruitcake recipe later this year and want to buy some mixed fruit/peel now to marinate in some wine. The recipe calls for dried currants and apricots but I was wondering if using mixed peel instead would make a big difference since I'm not too fond of currants and apricots. I haven't made fruitcake very often, so am looking for some advice here. Thanks a lot.
