Frozen Prime Rib

I always salt the prime rib for 24 hours before roasting. But since it is frozen, should I just defrost it in the fridge loosely wraped or without covering on a rack? Should I wait until it is completely defrosted before I put the salt on? And finally, is there a benefit to salting it for 48 hours? Thank you!
