One of my co-workers is from Wisconsin and always talks about how things are better there, from the butter burgers and beer, to the fried cheese curds and frozen custard.
Following Phee's recommendation, my wife and I headed over to Go Get Yogurt (corner of Mast and Magnolia) in Santee yesterday. I'd never had frozen custard before, but my co-worker always talks about how great it is so my expectations were high.
The custard was vanilla flavored and quite tasty. It seemed to be basically a richer version of soft-serve ice cream, which left me a bit puzzled as to what all the fuss is about. Don't get me wrong--I'm fully enjoying the $3.50 "small" that is lasting me 2 days. I guess I just don't see it as better than any other quality, rich vanilla ice cream (e.g. homemade)... just different!
To collect another data point on frozen custard, I'm planning on heading over to True Hearts Frozen Custard in Poway. I'll go on a work day with my co-worker and get his take on how good it is. I'll be sure to report back!
Many thanks to Phee for the recommendation... I'm also looking forward to trying the yogurt there. It's a plus that it's conveniently close to Oishii :)
