Fromage fort too hard

I tried making fromage fort with hard cheese and some butter. After refrigeration it's now crumbly and too hard to spread. I want to serve it to guests. Can I microwave it to make it smooth and spreadable or will that make things worse (maybe it will turn harder after sitting out after microwaving)?
