Site of the former Cal-Italian Al Frisco's, now made over to a French brasserie - did us proud last night.

We chose an outdoor table, and told our waitress Danielle that we had 50 mins to eat before our 10:10 showing of Troy.

She and the service team came through in spades - she even took my credit card so that the bill would be run through quickly and ready for our departure.

Water came right away, and a very nice Cote de Rhone courtesy of the affable sommelier (formerly of Ruth's Chris and other comparable eateries) who was knowledgable as well as efficient. Had we been in less of a rush I would have asked him to chill it for 10 mins, as these rustic wines often improve by being served closer to traditional European "room temperature."

Then our salads - excellent frisee for me, tangy caesar for my friend. No nonsense with pepper grinder either ! And on their heels - too quickly, but we could hardly complain - a seafood compote for my friend with pasta: adequate; and a delicious sirloin steak for me, trimmed of all fat (how rarely restaurants bother with this simple but appreciated step) served with excellent fries and a garlicy mayonnaise.

I will certainly return for a more leisurely repast in future, and recommend this to Hounds for a good meal served by well-trained and clearly motivated staff - the whole experience several cuts above the run of the mill joints in the theatre district !
