Fringale: still good

Tom Hall | Jul 6, 200205:25 PM

My wife and I went to Fringale for lunch yesterday after seeing a couple MOMA exhibits. I had a couple appetizers for my meal: scallops with fava beans, herbs and brown butter and stuffed squid with a tomato sauce and both were flavorful and well cooked. The sauce on the squid was fabulously good.

My wife is rather unadventurous with food and had steak, fries and green beans all of which tasted great. She thought the beans were a little underdone as they were still crunchy but the flavor was well developed and suited me fine.

The two desserts were excellent: a flourless very dark chocolate cake with a red berry sauce and a hazelnut cake with chocolate sauce. I think Fringale has consistently the best quality desserts I have ever had at any restaurant.

Service was professional and efficient. It is on the higher priced end of lunches but is fine for a special treat.
