A close friend of mine will be in town from NY next week, and we'll have time for 2 meals at the most, because as luck would have it I'll be in Chicago for most of the time he's here. I've spent plenty of time with him in NY, but this is his first trip to KC.
Just checking to see if there are any obvious places I'm not thinking of that would leave a distinct impression of KC on a native New Yorker who happens to be a real character. There are the obvious Stroud's, Peachtree, Bryant's, Golden Ox choices where I'll take visitors, but I'm really trying to think of something a little different.
I'm wishing Joe's Barn was still open, or Mrs. Peter's, or the truck stop at 18th and I-70 in KCK, or (and please forgive me on this one) The Gold Buffet on one of the nights where they had William's and Ree onstage, Peter's Drive-In, or Ruby's Soulfood.
On my list right now are places like Fritz's over off of Central Ave., Mug's Up or Jim's Family Restaurant over in Independence, Jess and Jim's, of course Bryant's or LC's, The Corner Cafe in Riverside, Jumpin' Catfish......there have to be a bunch of places I'm not thinking of.
Thanks for any suggestions, and I know I'm not the only one here who ever ate at the Gold Buffet, lol! Now I've got that song from the commercials going through my head!
