Cause a lot of posts here are very old Im starting new. I've had California Grill's zucchini in uptown whittier so I'm aware of them. Also Big D's Burgers are great (as long as no salt is added). However looking for new and better experiences. My favorite used to be Haven Burger on Slauson In Pico Rivera. Sadly that placed closed down long ago and was replaced by the disappointment that is Burger Stop. They over salt everything, and fluff up there breakfast burritos with stale potatoes that sit on the grills until someone orders them.
Are you referring to the Tops Burgers on Walnut/Foothill (http://www.topsburger.com/home.html) or the The Original Tops on Colorado (http://www.theoriginaltops.com/)? If the latter, I agree (haven't had the fried zucchini at the one on Walnut/Foothill).
I've had it only at Tops on Walnut. It's very good, but another example of how it seems any deep-fried side item in LA County comes by the shovel-full. Then a while back they started advertising "NEW!! Smaller Order Available!" So I got that … and instead of too much food for two people, the new "Small" is merely too much food for one.
I must tell y'all sometime about when we'd just moved here from Nashville, and I ordered a burger and LARGE fries at The Hat …
I have only been to the one on Colorado. There ranch is damn good too. I usually just get a small zucchini and small fry and share with someone else. Never been to Tops Burgers.
Sounds like ill need to bring a jar to bogard some of that ranch. :P
The Ranch dressing is at Tops on Walnut as well. And yes, while their fried zucchini is tasty, it is the dressing that separates it from the pack. I always ask for extra. As everyone says, their portions are huge and there is never enough sauce to go around.
A lot of people seem to like the fried zucchini at Steve's Burgers in Torrance. I personally don't, but I'm not really a fan of zucchini.
There are four locations in Torrance, but this one is the most popular:
Steve’s Char-Burger
18202 Prairie Ave
Torrance, CA 90504
I've always liked the fried zucchini at the Farmer Boys chain. Freshly made to order, crisp, and super fat.
Also delicious and probably not too good for you at Paul's Place. Locations in Buena Park and Cypress and a few other cities in the general area.
I've had it at Nick's (San Clemente and Laguna locations). We get it whenever we go. I've never seen it anywhere else.
Yes it was a new discovery for me after i finally had them raw steamed. Then I heard that some places offer it fried.
I like the fried zucchini at The Shack in Playa Del Rey. Everyone else orders burgers and fries, then "share" my basket of zucchini. They're especially good if ordered well done.
Fried zucchini is such a weird beast.
It can be sublime or horrendous.
The worst, for me, and unfortunately the most common, is when it is over battered and done up like a fried mozzarella stick. The best is with a light batter, and Parmesan dust -- lemon spritz. Hard to find.
I so agree with your statement. And this is the reason i started this post. I've had some pretty bad stuff out there. And its not easy to forgot terrible food items. Just cause a burger joint is popular, recommended, and is the best around. It doesn't mean every menu item is all that great. And so there are foodies out there with a niche for certain food items and pretty much know where the good ones are. Also cause some workers and waitresses/waiters are not always honest about the food that is served where they work.
I would like to find some fried asparagus. I've taken to stir-frying mine instead of steaming it, but never had french-fried.
I saw fried asparagus on the menu at Mahé in Seal Beach last week. Didn't have a chance to order it, but it sounded good.
