Fried clams in D.C.?

Willk | May 10, 2006 07:19 PM

I went down to the fish market in SW in search of two items: scallops in the shell, or scallops with the roe still attached, and fried clams. The scallops were definitely a bust-- all were machine shucked and probably treated with that awful chemical, and the fried clams were sorely lacking-- much more like clam-flavored chicken nuggets. Does anybody know where I can find the real deal? Whole (real) clams-- strips and bellies-- dusted in flour and deep-fried crispy squishy salty delicious? Any help on the scallops would also be appreciated. I still can't believe that gorgeous scallop roe is just rotting in a dumpster outside a processing plant somewhere. Thanks in advance and sorry for the extended rant!
