I am really hoping someone can help me out on this one, because it's driving me crazy.
Last year, driving north from Atlanta, I was looking for someplace to stop for lunch. I read (I thought on Chowhound, but searches of the site haven't turned up anything) about a place in some little town in SC that is supposed to have the best fried chicken, like, ever in the history of the universe. It wasn't on the coast, it was somewhere in the middle, and I can't remember the name of the town but I remember that it was something funny/remarkable. It was NOT right off 95, as our planned route was along smaller roads. It was described as the kind of place that was the only place in town, the mayor and the chamber of commerce held their meetings there, the sherrif hung out there all day, etc. Real local-type action. And chicken.
Does anyone know what the heck I am talking about? I didn't end up stopping last year, but might have the chance to soonish, but I can't remember the name of the town or the establishment. Is this making sense to anyone? I know it's all pretty vague.
