Met some friends first at Radius for cocktails before heading to O-ya for dinner. I love the bar at Radius but given the heat on Friday, the AC was not pumping enough for us. We made our way to O-Ya where we were told it would be about 45 minutes to wait for seats at the bar. We hit Les Zygomates across the street for another cocktail or two while we waited (it was pretty hot in there as well). They called us from O-Ya when our seats were ready and we were ready to eat! We decided on doing the omakase and we were not disappointed. We started with a delicious kumamoto oyster served with a mignonette with watermelon which was just perfect. My favorite of the evening was the otoro sashimi which really just melted in my mouth as it should. It was served with lots and lots of scallions. Another of my faves there is the hamachi nigiri sushi with banana pepper mousse. I love the tart flavor of the banana peppers with the smoothness of the fish. My least favorite of the night was the tuna tataki sushi. I think the tuna was maybe overcooked since it was mostly texture I didn’t like (and it seemed kind of chewy to me) and we got a tuna tataki sashimi later in the night which I liked better. We ended the tasting with the perfect foie gras sushi which was delicious and decadent. We also had two lovely bottles of sake recommended by Nancy though I know so little about sake that I won’t even try to describe them as I certainly wouldn’t do it justice. I will say though that I like that you choose your own sake glass from really pretty, colorful glasses. I’m guessing we had about 9-10 courses (one piece each) plus two bottles of sake and I think it came to $120 pp including tip. It is pricey but in my opinion totally worth it for the quality and creativity of the food. Hopefully someone will fill in the many holes I've left on some of our other courses.
