Friday night dinner (at the bar) with Mom

Agordo | Jan 9, 201508:02 PM

Hi Im looking for a place for next next Friday night (1/16). My mom has been spending the last four week with me, cooking up a storm as usual, and since she is leaving Saturday, Id like to take her out for a meal (even though I know she will protest).

Shes an accomplished home cook so the food has to be good and thats of primary importance. I think small plates would work best so we can critique and talk about each course but im open to a 3 course somewhere- shes not a huge eater.

She is also "price-conscious" so taking her out to Babbo or EMP is out of the question or Ill never hear the end of how i 'always waste money'. Im thinking no more than $150 total for the both of us but, if its much cheaper, then that would be a bonus. She enjoys wine so well probably split a very reasonably priced bottle that she will choose. Cuisine is wide open- Euro/Asia/New American/Seafood/Meat/Tapas/everything else- its all good. Area- my place is Midtown East but since its her last night, we cant travel (provided the weather cooperates).

Last time she was here i took her out to Casa Mono and she enjoyed it (but of course she insisted that she could do better...). Any other ideas? I know its a Friday night but this is Mom so were talking probably 5, maybe 5:30, or if shes feeling crazy, a 5:45PM dinner which will last an hour at most.

Id love it if we could actually see the dishes being made because, again, shes a great cook and she cooks daily for my dad and our extended family and friends down in Florida but this is not a deal breaker. However, I definitely think two seats at a nice bar are preferable and more fun to a deuce, sandwiched in a loud crowd.

Thanks for any input

Babbo,
Casa Mono
